The meeting was called to order by President Larry Barr at 12:10 PM.
 
Esther Curtice led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Announcements
 
President Larry Barr opened the meeting by thanking everyone who volunteered to work at Mission 10 this past weekend.  He thanked Mission 10 committee chairman Bill Tiffany and the committee for all their work in making Mission 10 successful again.
 
Bill Tiffany gave a preliminary results report on Mission 10.  He said we had 877 timed runners, and 960+ sign as participants. Bill said we have some extra t-shirts and participant medals if anyone would like one.  Medals were available on the tables.  Bill also thanked all the volunteers who turned out to work Mission 10.  Some club members volunteered stories about their experiences that day.  Will Sutten urged members who have not experienced working at Mission 10 to try to so next year because it provides a great experience of seeing the Hollister Rotary Club all working together to make a successful event.
 
Bill also recognized Chang So who placed #1 in his age group.
 
 
Larry Barr reminded members to reserve the date of May 16th on their calendar for the 100 Year Anniversary of the Hollister Rotary Club dinner.  It will be held at Swank's Barn.  More details to follow.
 
Larry announced that the meeting on Feb. 24th will the speech contest for Hollister High School students.  This will be the program for that meeting.
 
 
 
Raffle by Dave Baumgartner:
 
Bryan Yamaoka had the ticket for the Small Deck and the pot was worth $ 92.  Bryan did not pick the winning card but won a bottle of wine.
 
Harvey Blodget had the ticket for the Large Deck worth $146.  Harvey did not pick a winning card but also received a bottle of wine.
 
Detective:
 
Gordon Machado had the detective duties for this meeting.  He fined members $5 for in
correct answers about his questions on local history.
 
He fined Shawn Herrera $5 when asked what branch of service did Colonel Hollister belong to?  The correct answer was none. He was self-appointed. 
 
Jeff Modic was fined $5 for not knowing where the train from Gilroy terminated. It was Tres Pinos. 
 
Marchal Nelson was fined $5 because he celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. And Gordon asked Marchal when was the Hollister airport built?  Answer is 1942.
 
Will Sutton was fined $5 for the answer to the question of who built the airport.  The correct answer was the US Navy.  He also asked Will why they built the airport.  It was for torpedo bombers training,
 
Next, he asked Bill Baker where did the practice torpedo bombing.  The correct answer was Monterey Bay.
 
Gordan asked Rich Marcus what the number of the Bank of America branch office in Hollister was.  It was the 12th branch built by B of A. 
 
Bill Tiffany was asked where the air raid siren was located in Hollister?  He paid $5 to learn it as on the roof of the Holland Hotel.  It was later moved to the high school and is still there but not used any longer.
 
Gordon did a good job helping learn more about the local history of Hollister. Thanks Gordon.

This Week's Program
 
The program for this meeting a talk by Austin Curtis, Librarian of the San Benito County Library.  Austin assumed the position in July, 2024 after working in other positions since 2022.  He also worked in the Merced County library in 2021, and Stanislaus County Library from 2018 to 2020.  Curtis talked about the programs he has started in the library.  One is the Summer Reading program for youth, and it had over 2000 participants this year. Another is the Lunch at the Library program which provides a free lunch for kids up to 18 years old. He reported over 1200 participates in the program last Summer and he plans to continue the program in 2025. 
 
He also talked about the Touch a Truck event for kids that provides them the opportunity to experience all the different vehicles from the SB County departments.  This is done in Septembers. 
 
Curtis discussed some future programs he is planning then took questions from the club members.
 
 
Next, Bill Tiffany, a member of the Library Expansion Committee, gave us an update on the plans to expand the library.  Bill said this has been discussed for 10 years but keeps getting delayed. They have a state grant for $10 million with a match of $5 million from the county.  Plans call for an additional 4000 square feet to be added to the current building plus another 3000 square feet for staff offices.  Bill took questions from the club members.
 
 
 
 
NEXT WEEK'S PROGRAM
 
Our next meeting is on Monday, February 3rd at Paine's Restaurant.  The meeting will start at 12 Noon and lunch will be available at 11:45 AM.
 
The program for this meeting will be a presentation by Guillermo Rodriguez, Executive Director of the Community FoodBank of San Benito County.  Gillermo will speak about his role as Executive Director, and how the FoodBank meets the needs of the community.
