Meeting Highlights for Monday, October 16, 2023.
The meeting was called to order by President Rich Marcus in the small meeting room at Paine's.
 
Bill Baker lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
Geri Menold gave the Thought of the Day.
 
Larry Shaw gave a brief report on the golf outing on Oct. 13th at Ridgemark.  There were 15 golfers that participated.  Larry said this was the last golf outing for this year.  If you are interested in being notified of the plans for next year, please email Larry so he can include you on the emails. lshaw172@gmail.com
 
Rich reminded us that Cooper's Calling will be having their 2nd Annual Chile Cookoff in Tres Pinos on Sunday, October 22nd from 2 to 5:30 PM.  Come taste Rich's chile and vote for him!             
 
Larry Barr reported the passing of Richard King, past president of Rotary International and a member of the Fremont Rotary Club.  The Hollister Rotary Club Board of Directors voted to donate $1000 to the wheel chair project that Rich King founded.
 
Due to the limited space and time, there was no raffle or detective for today's meeting.
 
 
This Week's Program
Gene Hopp introduced Roxy Montana, the current Foreperson of the San Benito County Civil Grand Jury.  Roxy informed us that the Grand Jury is an arm of the Superior Court and has subpoena power to investigate all departments of San Benito County.  They produce an annual report on their finding at the end of the term in June. Member of the Grand Jury serve for one year, from July 1st to June 30th.  There are 19 members including the foreperson. Qualifications for members of the Grand Jury are 18+ years of age, must be a resident of the county, and speak English. After the Grand Jury report is issued, departments have 90 days to reply to the report.  The Grand Jury meets on Wednesday at 6 PM in the conference room at the Sheriff Department building.
 
Roxy answered many questions from the members present.
 
 
 
Next Week's Program
 
Next week's program will be at our regular meeting room at Paine's at 12 Noon.  The program will be a speaker from the San Benito County Public Health Department, Jennifer Frusetta.
