This is the bulletin for our meeting on Monday, November 25, 2024

Meeting Highlights:
 
Meeting Held at Paine's Restaurant
 
Attendance: 22 Members, 1 Potential New Member, Bob Rogers, and 1 guest, Judge Patrick Palacios.
 
Meeting:
 
The meeting was called to order at 12:10 PM by President Larry Barr.
 
Greg La Forge the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. 
 
Jayme Stewart had the Thought of the Day.
 
Announcements:
 
Phil Fortino thanked the club for the support of the United San Benito Gala. Phil reported it was a successful gala and every enjoyed the evening. 
 
 
Larry Barr told the club about our plans for a Christmas Party on Friday, December 20th from 6:30 to 9:30 PM at Damm Vineyards on Cienega Road. He said more details to follow but please save the date.
 
Larry reported that the board had approved a donation to Guitars Not Guns to sponsor a beginner and advanced session for 10 young people to learn to play the guitar.  Doug Moore is involved as an instructor.
 
Larry reminded the club again that there will be a Celebration of Life for Past Rotary International President, Richard King, on February 2, 2025 at the Blackhawk Car Museum.  Tickets for the event are $150 each and are tax deductible.
 
Larry also reported that the District 5170 Conference will be on May 31, 2025, at San Jose State University.  More details to follow.
 
Jayme Stewart also reminded the club to sign up for assignments for Mission 10.  She also said more sponsors were needed and asked for referrals.
 
Larry reminded the club that there will be no meeting on Monday, December 2nd due the Thanksgiving holiday.

The small deck jackpot was worth $44 and Mike Sanchez had the winning ticket. He did not pick a winning card but received a bottle of wine.

Detective:
 
Geri Menold was the detective for this meeting. She asked trivia questions about Thanksgiving Football and members were fined $5 for incorrect answers and $2 for correct answers.  Here are some of the Thanksgiving/Football trivia questions and answers:
 
Shawn Herrera: When was the first Thanksgiving? Answer: 1538 in Canada.
 
Esther Curtice: Where was the first Thanksgiving in Canada? Answer: Newfoundland

This Week's Program
 
This week's program was a presentation by Superior Court Judge Patrick Palacios. 
 
Judge Palacios was a sole practitioner attorney from 2015 to 2020 and served as a Deputy District Attorney at the San Benito County District Attorney’s Office from 2007 to 2014.
 
Judge Palacios has served as a Commissioner of the San Benito County Superior Court from 2020 to March 2022 when he was appointed by Governor Newson to fill the seat of retiring Judge Sanders. He ran for Superior Court last year and was elected for a 6-year term.
 
The judge told us about the different courts in the county and the different types of cases heard by them, Criminal, Civil, Probate and Family.  
 
He told us about the new courthouse and about the build out of the new jury assembly room. He invited us to come to courthouse to see the new courts and to witness trials.  
 
Judge Palacios took questions for the club members after his talk. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
NEXT WEEK'S PROGRAM
 
Our next meeting will be on Monday, December 9th at Paine's Restaurant.  Lunch will be available at 11:30 AM and the meeting will start at 12 Noon. 
 
Our program will be a talk by Seve Harris, Assistant Director of Guitars Not Guns who will be giving us an overview of their program to provide guitar lessons for youth.  
 
Steve might even give us a few tunes from his guitar!
