The Program for today was the 43rd Semi-finals for the Richard D. King Speech Contest.
Several members of our club volunteered to help with the Speech Contest. Harvey Blodgett and Sam Slater volunteered to be the Tellers for the event. Will Sutton Volunteered to be the Official Timer for the event.
We had three outside experienced Speech Judges for the event.
The first Judge was Mr. Kevin Mederios, he is Principal for Hollister High School. The next Judge for the event was Ms. Lori Woodle. Lori has been a member of the local Toastmasters Clun for 38-years. Ms. Carmel de Bertaut is a Certified Competant Communicator. She has been certificated by the Toastmasters Club of Salinas and she has an Associates of Arts degree in Communication Studies at West Valley.
There were a total of four speakers an they all drew cards with the letters A, B, C. D, and E written on them so that an order of speaking could be determined.
They are as follows:
Speaker A: Naiel Chaudry was the first speaker and he was from Mountain View High School. Neil spoke on, "The ?"
Speaker B: Aasma Dhawan was the second speaker and he speech was entitled, "Doggy Disneland."
Speaker C: Sravya Varanasi gave a speech entitled, "Scouting for Life." She is from Homestead High School and would like to go to go to the West Point Military Academy. She is the only Junior in the group.
Speaker D: Kira McGlashen gave a speech entitled, "The Stone Speech." She is attending Santa Cruz High School and plans on attending Boston University.
Each gave their speech and there was absolutely no applause in between speakers.
Tellers reported their results as follows:
The Finalists were and they received $700.00 each:
Naile Chaudry and Kira McGlashen
and the Semi-finalists were and they received $300.00 each.:
Sravya Varnasi and Aasm Dhawan
The Finalist will go to West Valley College to participant in the District Finals on 26 April 2025.
