The meeting was called to order by President Larry Barr at 12:05 PM.
 
Esther Curtice led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. 
 
Anne Hall gave the Thought for the Day.
 
Announcements
 
District 5179 Governor Elect, Geeta Kadambi, was introduced to the club by Larry Barr.  Geeta will be District Governor 2026-2027.  She told the club about her plans for projects during her term. 
 
 
Detective:
 
Dave Baumgartner was the Detective for this meeting. Dave asked members questions about astronomy, one of his hobbies, and about farm terminology.  He fined everyone $5 whether they gave him the correct answer or not.  Dave filled in while the judges were evaluating the speeches of the students.  Details of who was questioned and fined were not available for this bulletin, but it can be reported that it was a fun detective session.

This Week's Program
President Larry Barr welcomed the guests from Hollister High School who were present for the speech contest. Larry introduced Rich Marcus, past president, the moderator of the contest.
 
Rich reviewed the rules for the contest and introduced Will Sutton as the timer. There were 5 contestants who each gave 5-10 minute speech about The Four Way Test of Rotary.  They were introduced as contestant A, B, C, D, and E and we were asked to hold our applause until the contest was finished. The judge's decisions was as follows:
 
  • In First Place, Aiyanna Bailey. She is a Sophomore at Hollister High School and plans on attending Dartmouth College or the University of California at Berkeley. She plans to be a high school History Teacher. Awarded $200
  • In Second Place, Aditi Dantulun. She is a Senior at Hollister High School and plans on attending the University of California at Santa Barbara. She aspires to be an App Developer or a Project Manager. Awarded $100
  • A runner up, Kathleen Lohmeier. She is a Freshman at Hollister High School and plans on attending New York University or Johns Hopkins University. She plans on becoming a Medical Doctor or an Environmental Lawyer. Awarded $50
  • A runner up, Dianeth Arana. She is a Sophomore at Hollister High School and plans on attending a Southern California University or College. She aspires to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Awarded $50
  • A runner up, Jasleen Bailey. She is a Sophomore at Hollister High School and plans on attending Cornell University. She aspires to become a Lawyer.  Awarded $50
 
The winner, Aiyanna, will move on to the Area Contest to be held, March 26th at the City Hall restaurant in Gilroy at 7:00 a.m.  If for any reason that Aiyanna Bailey cannot attend the Area Contest, then Aditi Dantulun will take her place.
 
The Southern District Regional Contest will be held on April 14th at Paine's Restaurant in Hollister. It will be hosted by the Rotary Club of Hollister.
 
Hollister High School Principal, Kevin Maderas thanked our club for sponsoring the speech contest and for our continuing support of the programs at the high school.
 
Larry Barr thanked the speech contest committee: Mike Sanchez, Susan and Sam Slater, Will Sutton, Harvey Blodget and Alex Kingman for another successful speech contest. 
 
 
 
 
 
NEXT WEEK'S PROGRAM
 
Our next meeting is on Monday, March 3rd at Paine's Restaurant.  The meeting will start at 12 Noon and lunch will be available at 11:45 AM.
 
The program for this meeting will be a final report and discussion conducted by Bill Tiffany on the 2025 Mission 10. 
 
It will be interesting to learn the results and share our experiences during this year's Mission 10 event.
