This Week's Program

Our program for this meeting was presented by Patsy Gasca, from the American Red Cross of the Central Coast.  Her office is in Santa Cruz, and Patsy has been with the Red Cross for 35 years and is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Patsy told us that one of the missions of the Red Cross is Making Homes Safer and to Eliminate Suffering from disasters.  The Red Cross provides housing, clothing, toiletries, food and notification of loved ones after a home fire or similar disaster.  They also help replace lost possessions, help with insurance, and provide counseling for emotional loss.

One program is providing fire alarms in homes and mobile homes.  They have installed fire alarms in over 2 million homes in the US. The alarms are free of charge and also the installation. The alarms last for 10 years and are high quality.

Patsy proposed a joint program with the Hollister Rotary Club and the American Red Cross of the Central Coast to provide fire alarms to homeowners and mobile homeowners in Hollister.  She discussed how the Red Cross has worked with other service clubs to educating residents and installing fire alarms.
