Meeting:
 
The meeting was called to order by President Larry Barr at 12:00.
 
Larry Barr led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. 
 
Mike Sanchez gave the Thought for the Day.
 
Announcements:
 
Larry Barr gave a report on the Stuff the Bus held on Saturday, August 3rd.  He thanked everyone that gave their time to make this a successful event. He also gave special thanks to Chang So for donation of the food and water that were provided to all the children at the event. He also thanked Timothy Slater for providing folded balloons to the kids.
 
Phil Fortino also thanked the club on behalf of Vicki Fortino, the CEO of United for San Benito, for making Stuff the Bus a big success this year.
 
 
 
 
Rich Marcus ask the club for their donations to
sponsor his Make A Wish Foundation Walk on August 10th.  See Rich to sign up as a sponsor.
 
Larry informed the club that the club as agreed to sponsor a booth at the VFW Carnival on August 30th. The carnival is for special needs children and will be from 11 AM to 2 PM.  
 
There will be a Ceremony of Life for Past Rotary International President Richard King to be held on February 2, 2025 at the Blackhawk Car Museum.
 
Larry told club about the Wheelchair Distribution in Mexico City on September 20-22, 2024.  Six people have volunteered, and others are welcome.  See Larry if you would like to be included.
 
Larry Shaw reminded the golfers of the golf outing today at Ridgemark Golf and Country Club.  Tee time is 2 PM.
 
Larry informed the club that the district is putting on another year of the Rotary Leadership Academy. Past District Governor (2018-2019) Tim Lundell will be the Dean again this year. See the District website for more information.
 
Larry reminded the club that Hollister Rotary Club will be recognized as the Philanthropic Club of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce in September.  Tickets are available for the dinner.   See Larry for details.
 
We have 24 cases of soft drinks left over from the Saddle Horse Show and Rodeo.  They are available for purchase at $20 per case of 20-ounce bottles of Coke, Sprite, and Root Beer.
 
Raffle by Dave Baumgartner:
 
Raffle winners were Bryan Yamaoka, drawing for $113, and Bryan again drawing for $165.  He did not pick a winning card either time.  However, he received 2 bottles of wine!
 
Detective:
 
The Detective this week was scheduled to be Jim Pleyte but Jim was absent, so Larry Barr filled in for Jim.
 
Larry asked Phil Fortino what was the date of Larry's first meeting as president of the club 20 years ago.  Phil paid a $5 fine to learn it was July 12, 2004.
 
Larry asked Jeff Modic who was the program for his first meeting.  Jeff paid $5 to learn it was Jim Pleyte and he talked about his trip to Laos.
 
Jayme Stewart was asked what event did Jeff Modic and Son Ja Lee participate in at the Rodeo.  She paid $5 to learn it was cattle sorting.

This Week's Program
 
The program for this meeting was a presentation by Joyce Mercado the current president of the Rotary Club of Alameda. She discussed her new book "Save the Planet in Your Spare Time --A Climate Protection Handbook for the Busy Person." The book chronicles Joyce's journey to becoming a climate protection leader in Alameda.  She talked about wanting to have others learn from her experiences.  Joyce discussed changes that Alameda could make to reduce their carbon footprint. 
 
Joyce took questions from the club, and make copies of her book available for purchase at $11 per copy.  
 
Larry thanked Joyce for coming from Alameda to make her presentation.  
 
 
 
 
NEXT WEEK'S PROGRAM
 
Our next meeting is on Monday, August 12th at Paine's Restaurant.  The meeting will start at 12 Noon and lunch will be available at 11:45 AM.
 
Phillip Geiger, Executive Director for the Alzheimer's Foundation will be speaking about Alzheimer disease and the research being done to find a cure.  His talk will be useful and beneficial for all.
