This Week's Program
Rich Moore, Acting Supervisory Park Ranger for the Pinnacles National Park was our speaker. Rich's regular duties are Program Manager and Manager of Visitor's Services.
Rich told us the park was formed in 1908 and became a national park in 2013. Park covers 26,600 acres, and 65% is wilderness, and has two entrances, East and West but no road thru the park.
The park has over 330,000 visitors per year and there are 30 fulltime staff, and half of the staff lives at the park.
There is a $30 fee per vehicle, and fees average $1.3 million per year. Parking can be a problem on weekends and people have to wait for a spot to park. There are also Senior Pass available for $20 per year, and Lifetime Pass for $80.
Rich took questions from the club members about programs at the park and the access to the caves, and trails. Alex Kingman noted that she remembers visiting the caves when her grandparents owned the property.
It was a very informative and interesting program.
