This Week's Program
THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM

This week's program was a presentation by Kris Mangano.  She has been with the county for 10 years, and also served as an EMS attendant.

Kris told us the Office of Emergency Services (OES) provides emergency management services for the County Operational Area including its two principal cities and all special districts and political subdivisions.

OES coordinates emergency operations activities among all the various local jurisdictions and develops written guidelines for emergency preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation to natural or man-made disasters. OES also has the responsibility for EMS services in the county.

She said OES works in a cooperative effort with other governmental jurisdictions within the county, such as law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services, state and federal agencies, utilities, private industry, and volunteer groups in order to provide a coordinated response to disasters.

She described the 5 regions in the state for OES and San Benito County is in the Coastal Region. The regions ask for assistance in personnel and equipment from the other regions via computerized system on Sales Force.

Kris described the recent fire at the four corners in Dunneville as an example of calling additional resources from other cities like Gilroy and Monterey to provide 24-hour cover of the fire.

Kris held a Q&A session after her presentation.  We all learned more about the mission of the Office of Emergency Services.  Thanks Kris!

NEXT WEEK'S PROGRAM

Our next meeting will be on Monday, November 4th at Paine's Restaurant.

The program will be coordinated by Phil Fortino. It will be presentations by members on the propositions or measures on the ballet.  A member will take the FOR position and another member will take the NO position on each proposition or measure.  Each will have one minute to present their position.

This will be a very interesting program, and we will all learn more about each proposition or measure on the ballet.  We expect a big turnout for this meeting!
