Welcome to the Rotary Club of Hollister's weekly bulletin!

This is the bulletin for our meeting on Monday, March 25, 2024.

Meeting Highlights:
 
Meeting Held at Paine's Restaurant
 
 
Meeting:
 
The meeting was called to order by President Rich Marcus. at 12:30. The late start was due to waiting for participants in the area speech contest to arrive. 
 
Bruce Beetz led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
Jayme Stewart gave the Thought for the Day.

Gary Byrne, President and CEO of Community Foundation of SB County; Veronica Lezama, Branch Chief for Regional Planning for CalTrans;
Francisco Diaz, SB County Clerk/Registrar of Voters; Linda Smith, Girls Inc.; Ana Benich, Principal of Gilroy Early College Academy; Fernanda Cruz, mother of contestant
 
Announcements:
 
Rich reminded Hollister Rotarians that we will not have a meeting on Monday, April 1st due to the Easter weekend. 
 
Raffle:
 
Raffle winners this week were Bill Tiffany, drawing for $70, and Rich Marcus, drawing for $100. Both did not pick a winning card but did receive a bottle of wine.
 
Detective: 
 
Jim Pleyte was assigned to be the detective but it was decided to give Jim another date in April because of the delay in starting the speech contest due to waiting for contestants to arrive.
 
This Week's Program
 
The program for this week was the Area speech contest.  Six contests from the area Rotary Clubs were scheduled to be in the speech contest, however only two were present after a 30-minute wait.  It was decided to hold the speech contest with the two contestants present. 
 
The support staff for the contest were:

Sam Slater, Teller
Gary Byrne, Judge
Veronica Lezama, Judge
Francisco Diaz, Judge
Linda Smith, Alternative Judge
 
The two contestants were Megan Current from Hollister High School, and Pedro Soyer from GECA.
 
Megan Current was selected as the winner and will compete at the District 5170 Regional Speech Contest on April 9th at the Gilroy Elk's Club.
 
Megan was awarded $300 and Pedro was awarded $150. 
 
 
 
 
 
NEXT WEEK'S PROGRAM
 
Our next meeting is on Monday, April 8th at Paine's Restaurant. Lunch will be available at 11:45 AM prior to the start of the meeting. 
 
Our program will be the vocational talk of our new member, Rosy Segura.  Rosy will also tell us about CASA and what CASA does in our community.  She will also update us on what CASA has planned for the remainder of this year.
