Meeting Held at Paine's Restaurant

The meeting was called to order by President Rich Marcus. at 12:15. Larry Barr led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. Alex Kingman gave the Thought for the Day.
Announcements:
Rich reminded everyone about the CASA of San Benito County event on May 18th from 3-6 PM at Swank Farms. Tickets can be purchased at www.casasanbenito.org. $70 per person.
Larry Shaw said the next club golf outing will be Monday, May 6th at Ridgemark Golf Club. First tee time is 2 PM.
Raffle:
Raffle winners this week were Will Sutton, drawing for $74, and Larry Shawa, drawing for $109. Both did not pick a winning card.
Detective:
Jim Pleyte was the detective this week. He asked Rotarians about dates in American history.
Phil Fortino knew that Oct. 12, 1492 was discovery of America by Columbus. He still paid $5.
Will Sutton knew that 12/22/1620 was the date the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. He paid $5 but went on to tell us about the date and other landings.
Mike Sanchez was asked about 2/10/1763 but did know this was the date for the Treaty of Paris. He was fined $5.
Bill Baker was asked about 4/14/1775 and did know the answer was the Battle of Lexington and Concord. Fined $5.
Kyle Sharpe was asked about 8/2/1776 and knew it was the signing of the Declaration of Independance. He still paid $5.
Jeff Modic was asked about 9/3/1783 and was fined $5 for not knowing it was the date of the Treaty of Paris that ended the American Revolution.
Esther Cutis was asked about the 6/21/1788, date of the ratification of the Constitution. She was fined $5.
Harvey Blodgett did not know that 4/30/1789 was the inauguration of George Washington as president. He paid $5.
Ray Mariottini as asked about 4/30/1802 the date of the Louisianna Purchase. Paid $5.
Larry Shaw was about 4/12/1861 and paid $5 for not know the date of the start of the Civil War.
Larry Barr had to pay $5 for not knowing that on 4/19/1865 Lee surrendered to Grant.
Finally, Greg Laforge was asked about 1890 and paid $5 for not knowing this was the year that the Bureau of Census declared the US frontier closed.
We all learned more about American history thanks to Jim.
