Jennifer E. Jones, a member of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland, Ontario, Canada, has been nominated to become Rotary International’s president for 2022-23, a groundbreaking selection that will make her the first woman to hold that office in the organization’s 115-year history.

Jones will officially become president-nominee on 1 October if no other candidates challenge her.

Jones says she sees Rotary’s Action Plan as a catalyst for increasing Rotary’s impact.

“As we reflect upon our new strategic priorities, we could have never envisioned that our ability to adapt would become our North Star during what is inarguably the most profound time in recent history,” Jones said in her vision statement. “Silver linings rise out of the most challenging circumstances. Using metric-driven goals, I will harness this historic landscape to innovate, educate, and communicate opportunities that reflect today’s reality.”

As the first woman to be nominated to be president, Jones understands how important it is to follow through on Rotary’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Statement. “I believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion … begins at the top and for us to realize growth in female membership and members under the age of forty — these demographics need to see their own reflection in leadership,” Jones said. “I will champion double-digit growth in both categories while never losing sight of our entire family.”

Hollister Rotary awards $32,500 in scholarships to San Benito County 2020 grads

Each year the Rotary Club of Hollister (founded in 1925) supports youth in our community by awarding scholarships to deserving students. The club’s motto is “Service Above Self” and club members work hard to raise funds for scholarships and other community programs. The club’s largest fundraiser is the Mission 10 Race which is scheduled for January 30, 2021 in beautiful San Juan Bautista. Many thanks to all of the Mission 10 supporters over the years, for with your generosity, you are helping send kids to college.

Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. Our causes include:
  • Ending Polio
  • Promoting Peace
  • Fighting Disease
  • Providing Clean Water
  • Supporting Education

Introducing 2020-2021 President Gene Hopp

I joined Hollister Rotary in April of 2017 and been a member for 3yrs 4 mos. I served as Vice President-Elect and Rotary Foundation Chair in 2018,  Served as Vice President  in 2019 and now in 2020 serve as President of the Hollister Rotary club.

Since joining Rotary, I have served every year on the committees in planning and working the Mission 10 Race, our club’s biggest fundraiser for student scholarships. I also volunteered working at the San Benito Rodeo concession stand events, helped out at the 2019 United Way ‘Stuff the Bus’ with student backpacks event and joined the Area 6 clubs’ beautification day planting flower pots at the San Benito Historical Park for the park.

I retired from IBM after 33 years as a Senior Software Engineer and moved to Hollister where I worked as Sr. Software Controls Engineer for two local companies then as Sr. Manufacturing Test Engineer in San Jose. In 2017, I finally retired from the long hard commute and took up volunteer work here in Hollister where I was ‘discovered’ for Rotary membership.

Currently, I serve on the Board of Directors for SBC CASA and am a member of the Hollister Elks Club. I was a member and President of SBC SIR Organization for four years and edited the club’s monthly news letter. I have been married to a wonderful lady for 56 years this December.

My main goal as Rotary President is to grow the membership of this club, hoping to gain more women members and new professionals from all those new houses being built in this county.
