Welcome to the Rotary Club of Hollister's weekly bulletin!

This is the bulletin for our meeting on Monday, Monday February 26, 2024.

Meeting Highlights:
 
Meeting Held at Ridgemark Golf and Country Club.
 
Lunch Menu:  Baked Zitti, Salad, and Rolls
 
Meeting:
 
The meeting was called to order by President Rich Marcus. at 12 Noon with 35 people in attendance. 
 
Harvey Blodgett led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
Dave Westrick shared the Thought for the Day.
 
Guest of Rotarians:
 
Rich introduced Debi Pavlecic-Bischoff, a member of the Niles Rotary Cub of Fremont, and the chair of the Richard D. King Youth Speech Contest for District 5170.

Doug Moore, guest of Will Sutton
 
Announcements:
 
Larry Shaw reminded the club that the Rotary Golf Fellowship first outing this year will be on Monday, March 4th at Ridgemark.  The first tee time is 2 PM, and three foursomes are planned. 
 
Rich Marcus reminded the club that our next meeting on Monday, March 4th will be at Paine's restaurant.
 
Bill Tiffany announced that he had extra Mission 10 shirts for anyone interested in having some for the family.
 
Raffle:
 
Raffle winners this week were Marchel Nelson, drawing for $57, and Esther Curtis, drawing for $85. Esther drew an Ace and won $25.  Marchel did not pick a winner.
 
Detective: No Detective this week due to Speech Contest.
 
This Week's Program
 
The program this week was the speech contest for Hollister High School students to qualify for the Rotary Area Speech Contest.
 
Rich announced the rules.  Each student had 5 minutes for their speech.  He asked the audience not to clap after the speeches until all contestants completed their speeches.  Contestants were announced as A, B, and C. Names would be announced at the end of the contest. 
 
Speaker A spoke on "What is Hope to me?"
Speaker B spoke on "The US Healthcare System"
Speaker C spoke on "The Rotary Four Way Test" 
 
While the judges compared their rankings, Debbie told the club about the Richard D. King Youth Speech Contest.  It is a District 5170 program and there will be reginal contests and finally a district contest. The final contest will be on April 28 at the District Conference, and Hollister Rotary will host our area contest in March. Sponsors are needed and welcome.  
 
The three contests were introduced. They told us about themselves and what their goals were for the future. The contestants were Jasleen Bailey, Aditi Dantuluri, and Megan Current. 
 
The judges selected Megan as the winner of today's speech contest. Megan is a senior and is planning to attend De Paul University next year. 
 
Larry Barr thanked the judges for their cooperation, and the others who helped organize the speech contest.
 
 
 
 
NEXT WEEK'S PROGRAM
 
Our next meeting is on Monday, March 4th at Paine's Restaurant. Lunch will be available prior to the start of the meeting at 12 Noon. 
 
The program will be the celebration of the Students of the Month for the first five months of the school year at Hollister High School.
