Welcome to the Rotary Club of Hollister's weekly bulletin!

This is the bulletin for our meeting on Monday, Monday January 22, 2024

Meeting Highlights:
The meeting was called to order by President Rich Marcus at 12:15 PM.  There were 34 people in attendance.
 
Bill Baker led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
Mike Sanchez gave the Thought for the Day.
 
Visiting Rotarians:
 
Esther Curtis introduced guest Rotarians Femi and Tayo Adenekam from Nigeria; Ken Hewlick from Morgan Hill Rotary Club.  Rich Marcus introduced visiting Rotarians Phil Esperza, current president of the San Juan Bautista Rotary Club, and Andy Shelton, past president of the San Juan Bautista Rotary Club. Paul remarked how his club wants to continue to work together with the Hollister Club on projects such as Mission 10.
 
Larry Barr introduced Femi Adenekam and asked him to make a few remarks.  Femi said he was recently in Florida to attend District Governor training.  He will be the new District Governor with four districts now and increasing to six districts next year.  He will have 5,000 Rotarians in his new district. He reported there are approximately 25,000 Rotarians in Nigeria.  His hometown is Lagos, in Southwest Nigeria.  Femi owns a printing business in Lagos and as a Rotarian has worked with his local club to implement Global Crant projects in his community such as construction of water wells tp bring clean, disease-free water to around 20,000 people and to bring water wells and toilets at a school complex of 3,300 students. Feni presented a flag of his new district to Rich Marcus. 
 
 
Raffle
 
The raffle ticket for the small pot was held by Gene Hopp but he did not pick a winning card. The raffle ticket for the larger pot was held by Geri Menold she did not pick a wining card. 
 
Detective
 
Eric Taylor was our detective.  Eric asked questions about the NFL.  He was able to collect $50 from members who had the wrong answers to his trivia on NFL records and history.
 
This Week's Program
 
The program this week was devoted to planning on Mission 10.  Committee chairman Bill Tiffany led the discussion.  This will be our 40th Mission 10 Race.  It will on Saturday, January 27th.  The starting point will be in front of the mission in San Juan Bautista. We are expecting over 700 participants this year.  Jayme Stewart passed out the team assignments and team leaders.  Bill said setup will begin at 6:00 AM on Saturday morning.  He asked people to arrive on time or earlier so we can get everything setup before the runners arrive for registration.  All the preparations have by made with the City of San Juan Bautista and the California Parks Department.  After race clean-up will be important and Bill asked for people to stay to help with the take down and clean up.  Our 40th Mission 10 is ready to go!  See you Saturday morning!
 
 
 
NEXT WEEK'S PROGRAM
 
The next meeting is on Monday, January 29th at 12 Noon at Paine's Restaurant.  
 
The program will be presented by Brenda Weatherly. Brenda will be discussing Leadership San Benito.
