This Week's Program

Our program for this week was a talk by Brent Redmond from Redmond Transportation Corporation. Brent told us how he came to found his company back in 1987.  He is retiring this year and has sold his company to a Wisconsin company, and he is now consultant to the company until he retires.

Brent built the company hauling fruit, flowers, and vegetables from Hollister and Salines to the Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake, Phoenix, and other cities for companies like Safeway and Raleys.

He told us that the industry has changed from a hauler operator to a brokerage model where they make a bid to a company to haul their products for a period time at a fixed price per mile.  And they require you to have all the safety and technology for tracking their shipments.

He told us the California Air Resources Board has mandated EV trucks for the future so trucking companies will need to sell the diesel tractors and trailers that cost about $250,000 and buy EVs that cost $500,000.  Brent said the industry has had many changes since he started his business and he felt now was the time to retire.

Brent said he and his wife Sue plan to stay in Hollister and will continue to give back to the community.
