Polio Plus Flash Campaign Ends June 30th
Dear Rotary Friend,

Because of Rotary and its partners, the world has seen a 99% drop in the number of polio cases.  But the fight is not over.  And we need your help.  We ask you to contribute to The Rotary Foundation’s Polio Plus campaign, so we can reach our goal of complete worldwide eradication of this dread disease.
For the month of June, Rotary District 5170 is conducting a “Flash” campaign - you know, sort of like the “Flash” sales that retailers conduct.  We ask that you contribute a one-time $26.50 to The Rotary Foundation, in support of the End Polio Now campaign.

Why $26.50? $26.50 was the amount of the first contribution made to establish The Rotary Foundation for the purpose of doing good in the world, in 1917.These funds will be matched 2 to 1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Where can you get leverage like that in today’s world? Any contribution you make will be matched 2 to 1, by the way.

For those who have not yet contributed a total of $1,000 to become a Paul Harris Fellow, District 5170 will also match any contribution you make with recognition points, to help you achieve that recognition level.
Your contribution will also help your club achieve Every Rotarian Every Year status, which honors clubs in which every member makes at least a $25 contribution to The Rotary Foundation.
If you and your club have already contributed to polio, please take this one extra step and write a $26.50 check in support of this effort.  We will let you know how we did when the campaign ends in June.

Warm Rotary Regards,
Ninna Chugh

Hollister Rotary Announces 2017 Scholarship Award Winners
Each year the Rotary Club of Hollister awards college scholarships to local high school seniors throughout San Benito County. This year the club allocated $20,000 in scholarships to 13 very deserving students selected from San Benito High School, Anzar High and San Andreas High School. The 2017 recipients are: Alonzo Murga, Santana Rodriguez, Carla Vazquez, Gabrielle Cross, Lauren Klauer, Mark Scalmanini, Marisa Villegas, Lilian Jeske, Hernan Chavez, Antwaun Lind, Mia Vetimiglia, Eliza Rojas, and Diane Murillo.

Youth programs and scholarships have been a strong focus for the club for many decades in addition to many other local programs (Stuff the Bus, 12 Days of Giving, etc.) and international projects (construction of clean water wells in Nigeria, Cameroon & Ghana; sanitation in Nigeria & Ghana; maternal health in Nigeria; education in Mexico, Phillipines, and South America; literacy; oxygen generator and supplies in Ethiopia; polio eradication globally and much more). The Rotary Club of Hollister was founded in 1925 and lives by the motto "Service Above Self". Hollister Rotary's major fundraiser is the annual Mission 10 Race which takes place in late January at the Mission San Juan Bautista. The club also raises funds throughout the year by participating in the Saddle Horse Show and Rodeo in late June, the YMCA & Hollister Rotary Golf Challenge in October, the San Benito Olive Festival in October, and other smaller fundraisers.

Rotary brings together a global network of volunteer leaders dedicated to tackling the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges. Rotary connects 1.2 million members of more than 34,000 Rotary clubs in over 200 countries and geographical areas. Their work impacts lives at both the local and international levels, from helping families in need in their own communities to working toward a polio-free world.
