SBHS Student Lilliana Jeske Wins Annual Laptop Raffle for Student of the Month
This year's Student of the Month Laptop raffle goes to Lilliana Jeske. Congratulations to Lilliana who has worked so hard in her career at San Benito High. All of the students who earned the honor of Student of the Month were incredibly driven individuals. Each year the Rotary Club of Hollister hosts the Students of the Month at their luncheon and raffles a brand new laptop computer to one of the lucky and very deserving students. The club sees this as great way to promote educational goals and leadership among our youth.

Rotary Club of Hollister Passes Baton to New President
The Rotary Club of Hollister is pleased to announce the installation of a new club president, Amalia Ellis. Mrs. Ellis has been a member of the club for 4 years and started her year long term on July 1, 2017.

Mrs. Ellis takes over as the 93rd president of the Rotary Club of Hollister. She has served on the board of directors for the past three years and served as President Elect, Vice President and the International Service Director. She has also spent the past four years as the Public Relations Chair bringing her expertise in building a strong online web and social media presence as well as helping to grow promotion strategies for fundraising events.

Amalia’s goals for her term include increasing the club’s impact in the community both with fundraisers and service projects, strengthening our commitment to international projects and adding new members to Rotary. This year the Rotary Foundation is celebrating 100 years of doing good in the world with global grants and Mrs. Ellis plans to celebrate the importance of continuing this great work.

Amalia is the owner of Amalia Ellis Design, a full-service marketing and graphic design company in Hollister, CA. Mrs. Ellis has served on the Board for CASA of San Benito County, is a Leadership of San Benito County 2013 graduate and has volunteered for several non-profit organizations in San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties. She lives in Hollister with her husband Patrick and sons; Ian & Colin.

About the Rotary Club of Hollister

The Rotary Club of Hollister was founded in 1925 and lives by the motto "Service Above Self". Hollister Rotary's major fundraiser is the annual Mission 10 Race which takes place in late January at the Mission San Juan Bautista. The club also raises funds throughout the year by participating in the Saddle Horse Show and Rodeo in late June, the YMCA & Hollister Rotary Golf Challenge in September, the San Benito Olive Festival in October, and other smaller fundraisers.  The club meets at every Monday at 12:00 at the Paine’s Restaurant. We invite you to come for a complimentary lunch and learn more about Rotary and how you can get involved.

Youth programs and scholarships have been a strong focus for the club for many decades in addition to many other local programs (Stuff the Bus, 12 Days of Giving, etc.). The club awarded $21,000 this last year in college scholarships to graduating seniors throughout San Benito County. Beyond our community, we believe in building good will, peace, health, and literacy globally by investing in international projects. In the past 4 years, the Hollister club along with area 6 clubs have focused on construction of clean water wells in Nigeria, Cameroon & Ghana; sanitation in Nigeria & Ghana; maternal health in Nigeria; education in Mexico, Philippines, and South America; literacy; oxygen generator and supplies in Ethiopia; polio eradication globally and much more.

Rotary brings together a global network of volunteer leaders dedicated to tackling the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges. Rotary connects 1.2 million members of more than 34,000 Rotary clubs in over 200 countries and geographical areas. Their work impacts lives at both the local and international levels, from helping families in need in their own communities to working toward a polio-free world. Rich Marcus awarded Rotarian of the Year!
Congratulations to member Rich Marcus for being awarded the Rotarian of the Year by Past President, Krystal Lomanto. Rich lead our 2016-2017 Area 6 Community Project at the San Benito County Historical Park. Without his leadership and expertise we would not have been able to achieve our goals. Thank you Rich for exemplifying our motto of "service above self".
