Literacy Project - Book Program for New Mothers
Posted by Amalia Ellis on Dec 10, 2016
Hollister Rotary is hoping to encourage mothers to read to their babies at an early age. Literacy starts at birth. Talking to a baby is an important piece of developing a foundation of learning language and vocabulary. Reading to a very young child, before they are 1 yr. old, is a critical element to teaching a child vocabulary. Hollister Rotary has committed to assist each new mom and their newborn child by providing each, at Hazel Hawkins Hospital, with a new book. Our hope is that moms will read to their babies at an early age and continue through the early school years.
Literacy is the key to a successful education in school and through life.
