Member Larry Barr to be Honored with Rotary International's Service Above Self Award at District 5170 Conference
Congratulations to our very own Larry Barr who has been selected for Rotary International's Service Above Self Award. The Award Established in 1991 by the RI Board of Directors, the Service Above Self Award is Rotary International’s highest honor for an individual Rotarian who embodies Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self”, with an emphasis on personal volunteer efforts and active involvement in helping others. This is an internationally competitive award, with a maximum of 150 recipients selected worldwide each year, and only one per district.
Please join us on April 30th at the District 5170 conference in San Ramon where Larry will receive his award. Well deserved Larry!

Hollister Rotary Supports San Benito County Spelling Bee and Awards Winners with a Kindle
The San Benito County Office of Education hosted the annual San Benito County Spelling Bees, on Tuesday, March 1st for the Elementary (grades 4-6) and on March 2nd for the Junior High (grades 7-8). 2016 Area 6 Speech Contest Hosted by Almaden Valley Rotary
Five students from Area 6 clubs represented their clubs at the Three Flames Restaurant in San Jose on March 3, 2016. Each student recited a speech that included this year's theme of Be a Gift to the World and needed to include Rotary's 4 Way Test guiding principles.
This year Morgan Hill's Nikhita Gopisetty took home the First place prize. All of the students did an incredible job and were true winners. We are especially proud of Hollister's own student winner Hernan Chavez. Once again, he commanded the audience with his passionate speech about education as he drew on his own experiences and lessons learned. We are sure Hernan Chavez has a very bright future.
First Place Winner is Nikhita Gopisetty, Morgan Hill
Second place is Phoebe Yin, Almaden Valley
Third place is Hernan Chavez, Hollister
Fourth place Steven Porter, Gilroy
Fifth place Monica Zuchelli, Gilroy Sunrise
